As far as I have read in this forum, they don't care on how much you have spent on platinum charge. They will never offer more than 20k taj voucher for retention. Thats from this year. Since I have the Charles Schwab Platinum I took the points. Within five days they were in my account and I transferred them via Invest With Rewards into $625 cash in the market. I have read a lot about retention offers from AMEX but this was by far the highest one I've seen, and with no spend whatsoever to boot.

It appears that 20K Membership Rewards points is the most common offer for the American Express Personal Platinum card. I have heard of others getting 30,000 point offers as well but that seems to be less common. It also appears that the one retention offer per year may only apply to personal cards.
